Question

why does earth rotate about its own axis ?

Open in App
Solution

Hi Deep!

The solar system formed from a large rotating cloud of dust, rocks and gas. The interstellar dust was inhomogeneous, so that the asymmetry during the gravitational accretion resulted in the angular momentum of the baby planets. The current rotation of the Earth is the result of this initial rotation and tidal friction.

Cheers!!
