Various pigments are present inside the plastids of plant cell that are responsible for expressing colours to various parts of the plants. The presence of green pigment chlorophyll gives green colour to the grasses; Carotene pigment is responsible for yellow colour of papaya and lycopene pigment gives red colour to the watermelon.
