Why does gypsum slow down the setting of the cement ?
Gypsum itself is a dihydrated Calcium suplhate (CaSO4.2H2O) which increases the water content in cement making it soft and slow down the setting time.
By adding gypsum to cement (a) setting time of cement becomes less (b) setting time of cement increases (c) colour of cement becomes light (d) shining surface is obtained
Why gypsum is added in the manufacturing process of cement?
