why does hot air rise up and expand?

Open in App
Solution

The molecules of hotter air are more energetic and thus are farther apart compared to cooler/normal air. Due to this, the are less denser and thus comparatively lighter than cooler/normal air. Thus lightness gives hotter air a lift and it tends to rise.
