why does ice float on water? with same amount of water if we make ice how can it float on same amount of water?
As the ice has cage like structure thus, the ice of same mass as that of water occupies larger volume than the water. Thus the density of ice is less than water. When ice is placed in water, due to lesser density it displaces water, thus a buoyancy force acts on it in the upward direction and the water floats.
