Why does my voice sound different on a tape recorder/microphone?

Hello,
The quality of our voice is different on the tape recorder and the microphone. It basically depends on the electronic devices used for filtering and transferring our voice in microphone or tape recorder. Better quality of the electronic device produces better quality of sound.
