Question

why does steam causes more burn than hot water?

Open in App
Solution

Steam causes severe burns as compared to hot water due to the latent heat of vaporization that is released when steam comes in contact with skin and starts to condense. Steam in addition to the temperature (100 degrees) due to this release of heat energy is at a higher temperature which is responsible for the severe burns.
