Question

why does the antibiotic resistance gene loses its tetracycline resistance when foreign dna attaches?

Open in App
Solution

When foreign gene is introduced at antibiotic resistance gene site then insertional inactivation occurs. This occurs due to inactivation of antibiotic resistance gene by the foreign gene. The foreign gene which is introduced expresses itself but antibiotic resistance gene losses its function. This process is used in selection of recombinants during recombinant DNA technology.
