1) In India, during the Civil Disobedience movement participation of women in various movements were in large scale. This was considered as major aspect because women were suppressed and were not even sent out for education in the early years.
2) During the British period, nationalists struggle for their freedom and equality and with the coming of Gandhiji from South Africa the situation further strengthened. Gandhiji gave more importance to women participation and inspired by his speech and ideas, many women left their homes to take part in most of his demonstrations and processions
3) Thus, thousands of women came out of their homes to participate in salt satyagraha protests, manufactured salt and picketed foreign cloth and liquor shops
4) Many were imprisoned and in urban areas, most of the participants were from high – caste families, and in rural areas the women were from rich peasant households
5) Women were moved by speech of Gandhi and they considered service to nation as sacred
