Question

why does the upper part of the cloud carries positive and the lower carries the negative charge

Open in App
Solution

The upper part of the cloud carries positive and the lower carries the negative charge because the positive charges are acquired by lighter ice crystals and negative charges by heavier particles called graupels. These lighter ice crystal are swept away towards the top of the cloud leaving the heavier graupels at the bottom.
