Question

Why does water become cool when we drop ice cubes to it?

Open in App
Solution

The temperature of ice is 00 C or 273 K. Thus, when ice is kept in contact with another substance whose temperature is higher than 00 C, heat is transferred from the substance to ice. This transfer of heat brings about the cooling of the substance.

Hence, when ice cubes are added to water, the water becomes cool because heat is transferred from water to ice.
