Why food stuff is kept in the refrigerators to prevent their spoilage?

The temperature inside refrigerator is very low. We know that usually microbes cannot grow well in extreme conditions. For this reason by keeping food inside refrigerator the growth of microorganisms can be avoided. Without microbes the food materials remain fresh for a long time.
