Question

why graphite is a good conductor of electricity ,while it ais a non-metal?

Open in App
Solution

Each carbon atom in graphite is directly linked to only three carbon atoms through covalent bond. Therefore, out of four valance electrons only three are used up for the bonding and the fourth one remain relatively free and can move from one carbon to other. This movement of electron results in the good conductivity of graphite.
