Person with cuts and bruises following an accident is administered with tetanus antitoxin to prevent infection by Clostridium tetani bacteria. This bacterium causes a disease known as tetanus which can be fatal if not treated. This bacterium enters our body through cuts or wounds and is often found in soil and manure. At the time of accident, there are chances of entering these bacteria in our skin, so tetanus antitoxin is administered to reduce the chances of infection.
