Solution

Dear student!
Ammonia (NH3) has a lone pair of electrons on N-atom.

According to Lewis theory, the acid is an acceptor of an electron pair and base donates an electron pair,so, due to the presence of a lone pair when ammonia is added in water, it releases its lone pair to the water hydroxide ion and gets a proton from water to make ammonium ion. NH4+ ion. hence it is called to be slightly basic in nature.
