Question

why is benzyl carbocation more stable than ethyl carbocation?

Open in App
Solution

Hi Pooja!
Benzyl carbocation is resonance stabilized. Hence, it gets stabilized by the delocalization of electrons. On the other hand, there is no such resonance stabilization in ethyl carbocation. So, it is less stable.
Hope this answers your question,
Best wishes!
