An mRNA molecule is said to be monocistronic when it contains the single genetic information to translate only a single protein. It is mainly found in the eukaryotic mRNAs.
But, polycistronic mRNA carries the information of several genes, which are translated into several proteins. It is mostly found in prokaryotes like bacteria and archea.
