1) Cricket was the earliest modern team sport to be codified, i.e., it has its own rules and regulations and the first written ‘Laws of Cricket’ was drawn up in 1744.

2) By these laws of cricket, changes like wide balls rules was applied, exact circumference of the ball was specified, protective equipment like pads and gloves became available, boundaries were introduced, and over – arm bowling became legal.

3) These changes took place during the 19th century, but cricket remained a pre – industrial sport which matured during the early phase of Industrial Revolution, i.e., in the late 18th century.

4) Thus, history has made cricket a game with characteristics of both past and the present day
