Solution

Every cell of our body need DNA for proper functioning, DNA give rise to various enzymes and proteins in our body that are necessary for proper functioning of our systems.

Reproduction produce a new individual that also require DNA content for proper functioning of its body parts and systems. Hence during production of gametes the DNA replicates so that each gamete (that give rise to a new individual after fertilization) has DNA content.
