Question

why is "free fall" used only for objects falling towards the earth only? Don't objects accelerate on the moon?

Open in App
Solution

A body is said to be in a ‘Free Fall’ when the following two characteristics are fulfilled:
1. The body is accelerating only due to planet’s gravitational force of attraction.
2. There is no friction due to air.

Any body which satisfies the above mentioned criteria can be said to move under free fall situation so statement "free fall " used only for objects falling towards the earth only does not make sense, it can be used for any body falling under any circumstances towards any given planet.
