The first and most important use of mathematics in our daily life is during shopping(be in a grocery shop or in a mall) as somebody has to buy and somebody has to sell the various commodities which are needed .

So they must know basic mathematics. One of the other important area of mathematics is mensuration which is needed in flooring of walls or painting, percentage is used in discounts, interest rates in bank. Fraction is used in case when dealing with distances etc and the list is endless.

Yes you can say that complex mathematics like calculus ,more complex algebraic quantities are not used in common but one cannot go away from basic mathematics. So a knowledge of basic mathematics is necessary in everyday life.
