Why is methane called natural gas ?
Natural gas is a mixture of hydrocarbon gas and other gases which occur naturally. Natural gas is formed over a period of time by the decomposition of dead plants and animals buried deep in the earth and the action of heat and temperature on them. Methane is also formed in marshes, swamps and bogs.
Natural gas is primarily made up of methane and thus, methane is known as natural gas.
Other gases like butane, ethane, propane also comprise natural gas.
