Solution

Our body need continuous supply of energy to carry out work, grow and to repair. This energy is provided by oxidation of food. The oxygen we breath is needed for oxidation thus maintaining the continuous supply of energy. So, respiration is a continuous process which make us able to meet energy demand of our body. If respiration comes to halt the person will die.
