Question

why is sandy soil contains less amount of moisture than loamy soil ?

Open in App
Solution

The soil particle size and porosity of the soil determines the moisture content of the soil. Sandy soils have large particles and gaps between them. This allows water to drain away freely, making sandy soils retain less water between the pores. But in case of the loamy soil the particle size and gaps between them are very small. This does not allow the water to drain out of the loamy soil. Thus making loamy soil to retain more moisture than sandy soil.
