Question

why is sky blue ? Wider dispersion of light cannot be the only reason of blue colour of sky ? Why only blue colour scatters the most ? Even though blue scatters the most, why not the other colours appear ?

Solution

Sky looks blue, because blue colour undergoes more scattering of light than other colour of light owing to its shorter wavelength. The sky is blue to us by the light being scattered through nitrogen.

More to Know:

In space there is no nitrogen for the light to scatter through, therefore the sky around them seems black.
