Why is Teflon even if it is a plastic are used on cooking pans?

Hi,
Teflon is polytetrafluoroethylene. It is a polymer like polythene but it has different monomer i.e. tetrafluoroethylene.
Teflon has non stick properties and hence is used in making cooking utensils.
