Why is the conversion of ethanol to ethanoic acid an oxidation reaction ?

In terms of oxygen, oxidation can be described as gaining oxygen atoms. And in terms of hydrogen, oxidation can be described as the loss of hydrogen atoms.

In the conversion of Ethanol, C2 H5 OH to ethanoic acid, CH3 COOH, ethanol gains an oxygen where as it looses 2 hydrogen atoms. Thus, it is an oxidation reaction.
