Question

Why is volume of gases compared under s.t.p conditions only??

Open in App
Solution

Pressure, volume and Temperature are interdependent quantities.

The volume of any gaseous substance depends on pressure and temperature, hence when a comparison between two gases are made it is essential that the other two quantities (on which volume depends) are equal.
This allows to eliminate any ambiguity in the comparison.
