Question

why isn't the bond angle 90 in the tetrahedral compound?? why is it 109.5??

Solution

If the bond angle is 90 it will become a square planer geometry with the four atoms at the four corner of the square and one in the center.

For the geometry to be tetrahedral, the bond angle must be 109.5 only.
