why iz sea water blue in colour?

Seawater appears blue because, it absorbs all other colours except blue and reflects the blue colour. But this colour is dependent on the concentration of majority particles in the water. At some places it also appears green.

It is a common misconception that the colour of sea is blue because it reflects the colour of sky. You can verify that this is not true, because, on cloudy days also, the colour of sea is blue, where as the colour of sky is not.
