Question

why K nd Na can not be extracted by reduction of their oxides by carbon

Open in App
Solution

Some of the alkali or alkaline earth metals like Na, K , Ca, Mg, Al etc. are found high up in the reactivity series and so they are highly reactive and behave as strong reducing agents. Further, these metals have strong affinity towards oxygen than the carbon, so they can not be extracted from their oxides by carbon.
