Question

why melting point of para isomers are higher than ortho and meta isomers??

Open in App
Solution

Para isomer is more symmetrical than ortho and meta isomer because of which molecules are closely packed in crystal lattice and as a result strong intermolecular attractive forces occurs in para isomer as compared to ortho and meta isomer. Hence, in para isomer more energy is required to break the strong intermolecular attractive forces which leads to high melting point of para isomer than ortho and meta isomer.
