All living things are made of chemicals. These chemicals, are constantly produced and changed to other bio molecules. These reactions are called metabolic reactions.Such metabolic reactions occur in simultaneously in all living things, be they unicellular or multicellular. All plants, animals, fungi and microbes have metabolism. The sum total of all the chemical reactions occurring in our body is metabolism. No non-living object perform metabolism. Hence, metabolism is a defining feature of all living organisms.
