Solution

Quilt acts by trapping air between the layer of cotton or foam. The trapped air becomes warm by our body heat and keeps us warm. Newer quilts have tightly packed cotton which traps air better than older quilts whose cotton loosens with time creating gaps and allowing air to escape.
