Question

why nichrome,a resistive metal not used in bulb insted of tungsten?

Open in App
Solution

Tungsten metal is selected for making filaments of incandescent lamp bulbs because tungsten can sustain high temperatures and it has high melting point, combined with the fact that it also has high resistivity.

Nichrome also has high resistivity but its melting point is lower then the tungsten so its thin wire (used as filament) will be melted with continuos high heating.
