Open in App
Solution

Acid anhydrides: Oxides which produce acidic solutions on reaction with water are called acid anhydrides.

NO2 forms two acids when it reacts with water and hence it is called double or mixed acid anhydride.

2NO2 (g) + H2O (l) → HNO2 (aq) + HNO3 (aq)
