Question

WHY NOBLE GASES HAVE LOW SOLUBILITY IN WATER?

Open in App
Solution

The solubility of noble gases in water is due to polarisation effects. Water is a polar molecule due to which it polarises the noble gas atoms and dipole induced dipole interactions are induced in noble gas atoms. But the energy of interaction between noble gas atoms and water molecules is nor sufficient to cause large solubility. Due to this, noble gases have a low solubility in water.
