Metabolites are the essential elements and the products of any metabolism which takes place inside a system. They are small molecules that act as catalyst, stimulator, signaling or inhibitor for any metabolic activity.

Primary metabolites are the type of metabolite which directly takes part in a metabolism like reproduction,growth and development. E.g. alcohol, amino acids, nucleotides, vitamins etc.

For biochemical reactions to occur successfully and survival of organism, these primary metabolites are necessary.
