The more reactive metals can displace hydrogen from cold water while the less reactive metals can displace hydrogen from hot water. The more reactive metals need less activation energy for the reaction while the less reactive metals need more activation energy for the reaction which they get from hot water. Thus, some metals react with only cold water, some element react with only hot water.
