Question

Why sun appears reddish during sunrise and sunset? Draw diagram?

Open in App
Solution

At sunrise and sunset, sun lies low on the horizon. The path of light becomes longer compared to day. The shorter violet and blue wavelengths scatter away from our field of vision but, the longer wavelengths of light do not scatter much and the sky looks orange-red. Red has the longest wavelength in the visible spectrum, so when the sun lies on the horizon, it appears reddish.
