Solution

  1. With the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1990, new republics were formed from mainland Russia.
  2. However, most of these republics were democracies in name only. The people who came to power were former soviet era high ranking officials.
  3. By changing the constitutions and barring all other parties, these leaders are ruling the countries with an iron fist.
  4. Some of the republics like Uzbekistan were landlocked and rely on Russia for trade.
  5. This has resulted in huge dependence on Russia and interference in domestic policies.
  6. New age dictatorships have emerged in co-operation with few rich businessmen who control all resources in all these countries which split from the Soviet Union.
