Question

why the old egg floats while the new one sinks in water

Open in App
Solution

A substance floats in water when its density is less than that of water . Egg shells are porous. With time , the air cell in eggs grows larger. Older eggs have larger air cells, thus they are less dense than water, so they float. Newer eggs have smaller air cells, thus high density and thus they sink in water.
