why there is no work done, when a force acts at right angles to the direction of displacement ?
Hi Fahd!
The work done by a force is the dot product of force (F) and displacement (S). That is,
Work done (W) =F.S =FS cosθ .
So, when the displacement is at right angle to the applied force, the work done will be zero, because cos 90o = 0). If the displacement is along the direction of the applied force, the work done will be positive and if the displacement is in a direction opposite to the applied force, the work done will be negative.
Cheers!!
