Solution
Venus plant is a carnivorous plant. Carnivorous plants do make their own food through photosynthesis. But they capture insects as their prey. They supplementing their diet by trapping insects. These plants grow in swamps and marshes where the minerals like nitrogen are in short supply. These minerals are essential for plant growth. So, they get these minerals from the bodies of insects caught in their leaves and hence these carnivorous plants can grow in the nutrient poor soil. It is an adaptation of these plants. Once insects are trapped, carnivorous plants produce special chemicals that digest them.
