why was brussel chosen as the headquarter during the formation of european union
Brussels was not formally announced as the headquarters of the European Union but is the de facto centre of European Union Parliament. Brussels was selected for a number of reasons. Some of them are:
1. It is a city situated on the edge of two major European cultures Latin and Germanic. It is a considerably neutral state.
2. It is a large and bustling metropolis without being too congested but with enough facilities for the EU civil servants.
3. Brussels is situated in the urban centre of Europe and has good connectivity with major cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.
4. Brussels is the capital of a small country thus not in a position to overwhelm other smaller states with its power.
5. It also has an open economy, large commercial and maritime markets and good internal transport.
