1) In Awadh peasants were led by Baba Ramachandra which was started against talukdars and landlords who demanded from peasants exorbitantly high rents and other taxes.

2) Peasants had to work at landlords’ farms without any payment. The peasant movement demanded reduction of revenue, abolition of begar and social boycott of oppressive landlords.

3) As a result, Jawaharlal Nehru went around villages in Awadh and tried to understand the grievances of villagers around Awadh. By October, the Oudh Kisan Sabha was set up and it was headed by Jawaharlal Nehru, Baba Ramchandra.

4) When the non cooperation movement began, Congress made many efforts to integrate the Awadh peasant struggle in to mass and wide struggle.

5) But, the peasant movement developed many forms and events which made this movement took violent turn in many places. This made the Congress unhappy and hence could not approve the struggle further
