Question

WHY WE PLACE THE COMPASS NEAR THE MAGNET TO KNOW THE DIRECTION OF MAGNETIC FIELD?

Open in App
Solution

Like poles of magnets repel each other and unlike pole attract each other. In other words we can say that magnet has tendency to influence the other magnet when place with in the magnetic field of the other magnet.

Magnetic needle (or compass ) basically small magnet which when placed in the magnet region of other magnet it will deflect in such a way that its north pole points towards the south pole of the source of magnetic field whose direction we want to determined.Hence we used compass to determine the direction of magnetic field.
