Question

why work done is -ve in electric potential?

Open in App
Solution

In an electric field, work is done on a charge at the cost of its potential energy. When a charge move under the influence of an electric field, the potential energy of the charge decreases.

So, the final potential energy of the charge or the system of charges will be less than the initial potential and the hence we can write,

∆U = -W
