Question

Whydo gases always tend to be less soluble in liquids as the temperatureis raised?

Open in App
Solution

Solubility of gases inliquids decreases with an increase in temperature. This is becausedissolution of gases in liquids is an exothermic process.

Therefore, when thetemperature is increased, heat is supplied and the equilibrium shiftsbackwards, thereby decreasing the solubility of gases.
