Write a diary entry on Untouchability and how can we eradicate it ?
Untouchability is a social evil where people of 'upper castes' discriminate against member of 'lower castes' that cause much humiliation and discrimination. This is against the basic fundamental right to equality which guarantees equality to all. Untouchability has been abolished.
In as recent times as 2011, Dalits in Belthangady in Puttur, Karnataka suffered discrimination from a Government agency as India Post. Dalits were not allowed to enter the Post Office and had to conduct their transactions in an open area near the Post Office. This was brought to light and a complaint of practising Untouchability has been registered against the authorities. The Assistant Superintendent of Police is now looking into the matter and conducting an enquiry into it.
The onus is on the larger society to bring such matters into public notice and media glare so that justice can be dispensed. It is also our responsibility to educate the future generations against such practices and to treat all our fellow Indians with respect and dignity. No form of discrimination should be practised or tolerated.
